JAMAICAN TINESTA Rowe and her Canadian tennis partner, Melanie Gloria, have been ranked the number one NCAA Division One doubles combination in the United States.
The pre-season ranking for the Fresno State College pair comes on the heels of a stellar autumn season in which they defeated four opponents ranked in the top 20 on their way to winning the ITA Northwest Regional Championships at Stanford University in October.
Twenty-two-year-old Rowe, a past student of Ocho Rios High and St. Hilda's, who hails from Runaway Bay, won eight straight doubles matches with Gloria during the autumn.
In her third year at the college, she has also earned an impressive pre-season singles ranking of 43 after defeating number nine ranked Celia Durkin of Stanford and posting a 4-1 singles record at the Northwest Regional Championship. The prestigious NCAA championships will be held in May.
Meanwhile, on the local scene, as a part of the continuing Alliance Investment 11 and Under Coaches Education Programme, Tennis Jamaica will be staging a workshop today between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. at the Eric Bell Tennis Centre in Kingston.
The 25 physical education teachers and coaches who participated in the Progressive Tennis workshop conducted by Canadian coach Geoff Bower in November have been invited to attend and will be tutored on 'How To Run a Tennis Camp for Youngsters'.
Jennifer Mendes, marketing manager at Alliance Investment Management Ltd., will present the successful participants with their certificates of achievement for the November workshop.
Other camps/workshops will be held on January 24 in Montego Bay and January 30 in Mandeville.
The Alliance Investment 11 and Under schools' competition will be held in April and May.
