Coaches unhappy with draw

Recalled coach to the national programme and technical director of St. Georges F.C., Donovan Duckie, said compla-cency robbed his team of an eighth victory at their home ground, Lynch Park in Buff Bay, Portland, on Sunday, against Reno.

Georges, which have the best home record of the 12 teams competing in the Cash Plus Premier League, was forced to come from behind to earn a hard fought 1-1 draw with the visiting Westmoreland team, which had earlier defeated them 1-2 in the first round.

"The draw brought a halt to our winning streak at home," said Duckie. "The result was a somewhat disappointing one for not only the team, but also the fans, who have thrown their full support behind the team every single game."

Work harder

However, Duckie said though disappointing, the result will propel the players to work harder as they were too relaxed after defeating the likes of Portmore United and Harbour View in impressive fashion.

He said: "This is a young team which is determine to give a good account of themselves and I expect them to bounce back to winning ways in our next game, Wednesday, against Sporting Central."

It was a 29th-minute penalty from Nicholi Finlayson which silenced the near capacity crowd at Lynch Park on Sunday - giving Reno the lead.

The entire first half was dominated by Reno through Dwayne Plummer, Evon Taylor, Gary McIntosh, Finlayson and captain Kendrie Quarrie.

It was not until the second half that Georges drew level through their prolific striker, Damian 'Boy Boy' Harwood, who picked up a pass inside the 18-yard box and lobbed the ball over the head of the advancing goalkeeper at the 67th minute.

Duckie pointed out that the absence of Omar Brissett greatly affected the performance of the team, especially in midfield where they were thoroughly outplayed.

Reno's technical director, Wendell Downswell, also expressed disappointment with the results as his team was in search of all the points. He said that three points away from home would have been great as Georges is a force to reckon with, especially at home.

"I really wanted the guys to hold on to that first half lead," Downswell said. "The Reno team is a young one and we are presently in a rebuilding process. At this time, we are seeking to retain our place in the league, but by 2010, this team will be a force to be reckoned with."
