While champions Glenmuir will be seeking to rebound from their midweek loss to Garvey Maceo, top billing in this afternoon's round of matches in the 2007 ISSA/Pepsi/ Digicel daCosta Cup should go to the top-of-the-table Zone H clash between Clarendon College and Vere Technical in Chapelton, Clarendon.
Although the Garfield Robinson-coached Clarendon College outfit, with maximum 12 points from four games, should start marginal favourites, the Vere Technical team, with 10 points from three wins and draw, cannot be slighted in any way as their record would suggest they are a quality team.
"I still see some weaknesses in my team that need to be worked on and corrected," Robinson told The Gleaner after his team's 1-0 win against Thompson Town on Thursday. "There is still a lot of room for improvement."
With a rich history between the schools that entails a grand total of 15 daCosta Cup titles - Vere Technical with nine and Clarendon College six - bragging rights could also come into the equation as both teams seek to defend their legacy in a zone which also features Lennon (10) and Denbigh (6).
Other games
Among the other games that should generate significant interest are the top-of-the-table Zone B clash between Rusea's and Frome Technical, the Zone C showdown between Petersfield and Godfrey Stewart, the top-of-the-table Zone D match-up between Brown's Town and Cedric Titus and the Titchfield against Fair Prospect contest in Zone L (a).
With impressive back-to-back wins against Green Island and Cambridge, the Rusea's team appears on course to enjoy one of their better seasons in recent years. In fact, assistant coach Anthony 'Follies Williams is quite adamant that another championship is on the cards for his team.
While not generating a lot of hype this season, the Boysie Nicholson- coached Frome Technical have been like silent assassins in their three games, clipping Knockalva 1-0, squeezing past Cambridge 3-2 and beating Green Island 3-1. Many believe the Rusea's test will show their true mettle.
Godfrey Stewart, which seemingly woke up from their slumber with a 6-0 thrashing of Little London on Wednesday after looking lethargic in their 2-2 draw with Grange Hill and 0-1 loss to Mannings, should be aiming to complete their resurgence against a Peterfield team which has had two wins and a draw in three outings.
