Best left out B'dos squad

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC):

Barbados have short-listed a squad of 16, including uncapped all-rounder Jonathan Carter, for the KFC Cup West Indies limited-overs championship next month. The 19-year-old Carter is a former Young Barbados player. A left-handed batsman capable of bowling either right-arm medium-pacers or off-spin, he has gained recognition after scoring heavily in the Barbados Cricket AssociationŐs club competitions.

Though room could be found for Carter, there was none for out-of-favour West Indies fast bowler Tino Best he was one of the more successful bowlers in the trial matches played prior to the selection of the squad.

New captain Corey Collymore is one of four West Indies players in the squad. The others are new vice-captain Dwayne Smith, left-arm fast-medium bowler Pedro Collins, and fast bowler Fidel Edwards.

The squad will be reduced to the statutory 13 for the competition, following a two-week training camp which include two practice matches against a University of the West Indies XI on October 5 at Kensington Oval and 9 at the Three Ws Oval.

Squad: Corey Collymore (captain), Dwayne Smith (vice-captain), Sulieman Benn, Derek Bishop, Wayne Blackman, Patrick Browne, Jonathan Carter, Pedro Collins, Fidel Edwards, Kirk Edwards, Carlo Morris, Martin Nurse, Dale Richards, Kemar Roach, Kevin Stoute, Kenroy Williams.
