B'port crush 'Selassie' 13-love
published: Saturday | September 29, 2007

Kwesi Mugisa, Staff Reporter

Defending champions Bridgeport sounded an ominous warning to all would be contenders for the title, when they demolished Haile Selassie 13-0 in Group D action of the ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel Manning Cup at Tinson Pen yesterday.

Strikers Andre Clennon and Darren Mattocks banged in four goals each, there was a hat-trick for Adrian King and a brace for Andre Steele, as the Bridgeport attacking players made themselves quite at home in front of the Haile Selassie goal.

Following a loss to 0-1 Norman Manely on the opening day of the season, Bridegport seem to have regained their stride.

Over in Group D, Kingston College (K.C.) recovered from a sputtering start to eventually see off Kingston Technical 3-0 at Clovelly Park. Coming off the high of a 5-0 pounding of Donald Quarrie, K.C. got on the scoresheet early when Rohan Roye blasted the ball into the net from close range in the 15th minute. Roye was gifted with the opportunity when a mistimed cross by Javon Hussey banged off the crossbar, falling at his feet some 10 yards away.

Resilience

Kingston Technical would, however, show their resilience and looked a positive team at the start of the second half. Striker Kadel Clarke found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper on two separate occasions, but could convert neither opportunity.

Substitute Kemar Edwards eventually gave KC breathing space with his 85th minute strike, before the thin Christopher Harrison finished off the game in fine style with his close range 90th minute strike.
